8 Things that Grieve the Holy Spirit by todd tomasella

What 8 Things Does the Bible Tell Us "Grieve ... the Holy Spirit of God"?

Firstly, let us acknowledge from His Word, that the LORD can be grieved. He has emotions.

"And they put away the strange gods from among them, and served the Lord: and his soul was grieved for the misery of Israel." Judges 10:16

“But if ye will not hear it, my soul shall weep in secret places for your pride; and mine eye shall weep sore, and run down with tears, because the Lord's flock is carried away captive." Jeremiah 13:17

The following passage from Ephesians 4 is what we will peer into concerning the Holy Spirit's warning to us not to grieve Him:

"Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you." Ephesians 4:29-32

• "corrupt communication" (v29)
• Lack of "edifying" that "minister(s) grace unto the hearers" (v29)
• "bitterness" (v31)
• "wrath" (v31)
• "anger" (v31)
• "clamour" (v31)
• "evil speaking" (v31)
• "malice" (v31)

What is the attitude of all true believers toward their fellow brethren?

"And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you." Ephesians 4:32

• "kind one to another"
• "tenderhearted"
• "forgiving one another"

And WHYYYYY are we to freely extend mercy with a tender heart to others? – "for Christ's sake" or on the basis of Christ's merit alone you and I are forgiven and not on our own merit. Our own righteousnesses are as filthy rags in the eyes of the one true God who is "Holy, holy, holy." (Isaiah 6:3; Revelation 4:8)

There is "NO GOOD THING" at all in you outside of Christ Himself.

Are you "blessed" according to Jesus? Let's find out okay:

"Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy." Matthew 5:7

"For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not." Romans 7:18
If you need mercy – and you certainly do – you better get an attitude of mercy toward others or you will be under the judgment of God (James 2:13).

It's time to repent and wake up people. YOU are in desperate need of the present grace and mercy of God and if you don't show it to others, He will not give it to you. If you die in that state of hatred of heart, you are going to spend eternity in the lake of fire.

"We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death. Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him. Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren." 1 John 3:14-16
